George Phillips Addresses Terrorism and National Security in the New Year

Friends,

As families around the nation welcome in the new year it is fitting that one of our resolutions should be a renewed commitment to ensure the security of our nation in an increasingly dangerous world. The attempted bombing of a fully loaded plane on Christmas Day stands as a stark reminder of a vital job which remains unfinished by the White House and our Congressional leadership. While our legislature continues to battle over expanding the role of the federal government in the private lives of citizens, malicious forces around the globe are still conspiring to do our nation harm.

Some Democratic leaders choose to treat this as an isolated law enforcement incident while others, such as Maurice Hinchey, simply remain silent, pretending that we are no longer at war with a cunning, shadowy global enemy. Our limited intelligence resources must be expanded, better organized and rededicated to identifying threats such as Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab before they achieve catastrophic success in their goals.

With these things in mind, my family and I would like to wish everyone a happy, prosperous, healthy, and most of all, safe and secure New Year.

Phillips Responds to Eric Massa’s Call to Abandon Afghanistan

Friends,

As Christmas approached this year, Congressman Eric Massa (D-NY 29) issued a statement once again calling for the withdrawal of our forces from Afghanistan and abandoning our efforts to combat terrorism around the globe.

This is precisely the wrong time to send this sort of message. While I understand that a debate continues in our country over our ongoing efforts to fight terrorism around the world, this is no longer simply “George Bush’s war.”  President Obama, who is a member of Congressman Massa’s own party, has made the decision to press forward and pursue our interests in this conflict, at least in the short term.

The Christmas season is a particularly stressful time for our men and women in uniform to be separated from their friends and family as they defend our freedom on foreign shores. They need to know that their government supports them and their mission, now more than ever. My family and I wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to those fighting in our nation’s service, and want them to know that they are all in our thoughts and prayers this Christmas, and every day. Congressman Massa will likely have the opportunity to spend Christmas with his family. Our soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq will not. Eric Massa should retract his statements and show his support for America’s military and join us in praying for their safety and success as we celebrate this season.

Phillips Responds to Hinchey’s Outrageous Claim About Bin Laden

Dear Friends:

This week my opponent Maurice Hinchey went on MSNBC and said that President Bush ‘intentionally let Osama Bin Laden get away’ as part of an Iraq War plan.

These outrageous comments, which can be seen by clicking here, are generating national attention.

These wild accusations by a Member of the United States Congress on national television are simply an insult to the men and women who have put their lives on the line to capture a terrorist responsible for the 9/11 attacks.

I have called upon Hinchey to retract his comments and issue a formal apology.

Your donation to our campaign will send a strong message to this out of touch liberal that Americans won’t stand for this type of rhetoric.

Sincerely,
